Dimethyl carbonate (DMC) is an  organic compound with the formula OC(OCH₃)₂. It is a colourless, flammable liquid. It is classified as a carbonate ester. This compound has found use as a methyating agent and more recently as a solvent that is exempt from the restrictions placed on most volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the US. Dimethyl carbonate is often considered to be a green reagent.

Application for the DMF

 

Dimethylformamide is not only a chemical raw material with wide use, but also an excellent solvent widely used. It can be used for wet spinning of synthetic fibers such as polyacrylonitrile fibers, synthesis of polyurethane, plastic film making, or as Paint stripper. It can also dissolve some low solubility pigments, so that the pigments have the characteristics of dyes.

In petrochemical industry, it can be used as a gas absorbent and chlordimeform. In the pharmaceutical chemical industry, it can be used to synthetize iodopyrimidine, doxycycline, cortisone, vitamin B6, iodine glycoside, vermicular repellent, thiazide, N-methyl-acyl sarcomatolysin, antineoplastic acid, methoxyaromatic mustard, biazanol mustard, cyclohexanone, furosemide, haemostatic acid, betamethasone, methylprogesterone, bile vitamin, chlorpheniramine, etc.
