Pharmaceutical Machinery for Herbal Extract

It is known that herbal medicine can cure diseases. However, most herbal medicine cannot be taken orally, injected or applied externally. Instead, some methods should be used to separate the effective ingredients and then make them into granules, injections, ointments and other forms that can be directly used. When herbal medicine or animal parts are heated properly in a solvent such as water or ethanol, the active ingredients will dissolve in the solvent, the solution containing the active ingredients is called extract, and the useless solid part is called medicine residue. The extract and the residue shall be separated by filtration system.

Because the active ingredients content is relatively low in the extract, the solvent in the extract shall be heated to evaporate part of it. Thus, the higher concentration of the extract is called the concentrate. (the higher concentration is called the extract of traditional Chinese medicine).

Since many of the active ingredients in herbal medicine are heat sensitive, they will decompose and deteriorate at higher temperatures, the evaporation of solvent should be carried out under vacuum condition, which can reduce the evaporation temperature.
