Group A paper

The ratio of length to width is square root of 2:1.
The most commonly used paper size is A4, which is 297 by 210 mm.

The basis of series A was to find A piece of paper with A length/width ratio of square root of 2 and an area of 1 square meter (m).
The paper is therefore 841 mm wide and 1189 mm long (the ratio of length to length is √2:1) and is numbered A0.

Group C paper

The size is the geometric average of A and B sheets of paper with the same number.

So C4 is somewhere between A4 and B4, and A4 paper can fit into C4 envelope-bags, while C4 paper can fit into B4 envelope-bags.
