Iron ammonium citrate, also known as iron ammonium citrate, is available in brown and green. It is odorless, salty and iron-smelling, and easily absorbs moisture. Because it can be reduced to ferrous salt by light, it is more unstable in solution, soluble in water and insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. The aqueous solution is neutral, and green is more easily reduced by light than brown. The iron content of brown scaly ammonium ferric citrate is higher, while that of green scaly ammonium ferric citrate is lower.
