STEP 1-PACKAGE CONTENTS
Remove the longmedTM Device and Suture Passer from package. Set the device aside and pick up only the suture passer with the black triangle on the thumb handle
facing up. Slide off the protectivesheath from suture passer with the distal tip pointed away from your body.
STEP 2-LOADING THE SUTURE PASSER
Make a 3 cm loop with size 0 or 1 suture and guide suture passer tip through loop about halfway down the shaft. Now with a slight downward pressure of the suture loop on the metal shaft, slide the suture towards the distal end until it falls into the notch portion. Immediately pull back towards the thumb handle to lock suture into place. For now you can set this aside until Step 4.
STEP 3-DEPLOYING WINGS
Insert the Longmed TM Device into defect allowing for ample space between peritoneal membrane and wings. Secure device with index finger and thumb on finger grips and draw back on ring handle deploying wings and immediately turn handle to the left to lock.
STEP 4-DELIVERING SUTURE
It is important to keep the device stable during each pass. Grasp the device firmly with index finger and thumb on the finger pads while resting your palm on the abdomen for added stability. Insert the preloaded suture passer down one of the two guide channels through the silicone pad .. Emmediately turn handle to the right to unlock,ensurepass moves forward consistently andsmoothly through layer and finally reach thesafety target point .
STEP 5- CLEARING THE GUIDE CHANNEL
Gently remove the outer suture loop from the guide channel slits. Lay the loop on the abdomen freefrom obstruction. During removal of the device, allow the loop to slide down into the defect .
STEP 6- APPROXIMATE THE WINGS
Turn the ring handle to the right to the unlock position. With the device stable, press down on thering handle to bring the wings with captured suture together for easy
removal .
STEP 7- REMOVAL OF DEVICE
Remove the entire device from the defect slowly until you are able to free the suture ends from the silicone pads by hand. Once removed, pull up on the two suture ends
and allow outer loop to fall down into the defect .
STEP 8- CLOSURE OF DEFECT
Use standard tie down techniques to obtain desired closure. Palpate defect to ensure full closurecompleting the process .
