Polyacrylamide (abbreviated as PAM or PAAM, chemical formula (- [CH2CH] nconh2 -) is a polymer polymerized from acrylamide monomer. Acrylamine needs to be treated with good laboratory practices (GLP) to avoid toxicity. Polyacrylamide itself is not toxic, and it needs to be decomposed and reduced to acrylamide monomer (AAG) in very high temperature for a long time, so it will not be decomposed and reduced to AAG in human body. As for acrylamide monomer, it is a neurotoxin, so it is recommended to handle it carefully. The medical equipment is a super absorbent material and produces colloidal substances. It can be applied to the manufacture of contact lenses, cosmetics and personal products by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. It will also be used as a thickener and suspending agent. Recently, it has been used as a cosmetic surgical filling for facial dermis (see aquamid for details). It was also called "krilium" by Monsanto in 1950 as soil improver and now "MP" as "unique polyacrylamide (water-soluble polyacrylamide)". Anionic polyacrylamine is often used as soil improver and soil erosion control. Ionic substances, such as salts, cause polyacrylamide to release its absorbing substances. Polyacrylamide gel polyacrylamide classification: Double ionic (Amphionic PAM) non-ionic (NPAM), cationic (CPAM) and anionic (APAM). Application of polyacrylamide: 1. Polyacrylamide is a general designation of homopolymer of acrylamide or polymer copolymerized with other monomers. Polyacrylamide (PAM) is one of the most widely used water-soluble polymers. 2. Polyacrylamide is widely used in petroleum exploitation, papermaking, water treatment, textile, medicine, agriculture and other industries. According to statistics, 37% of the total output of PAM in the world is used for wastewater treatment, 27% for petroleum industry and 18% for paper industry. 3. Polyacrylamide has good thermal stability and is easy to dissolve in cold water. The viscosity and concentration of its aqueous solution approximate to logarithmic relationship (i.e. linear relationship). Polyacrylamide (PAM) with high relative molecular weight and ultra-high relative molecular weight (more than 2000 × 10) has high viscosity, and its aqueous solution has good tolerance for electrolyte. Action principle of polyacrylamide: the molecular chain of polyacrylamide is very long, so that it can bridge between two particles and accelerate the sedimentation of particles, which is a good flocculant. Polyacrylamide and its derivatives are produced by acrylamide radical polymerization in industry. The polymerization method is divided into bulk polymerization, solution polymerization, suspension polymerization and emulsion polymerization according to the dispersion state of monomer in the medium. According to the dissolving state of monomer and polymer, it can be divided into homogeneous polymerization and heterogeneous polymerization. There are three forms of polyacrylamide products: aqueous colloid, powder and emulsion. Polyacrylamide is polymerized from acrylamide. There are a lot of side groups on the main chain of polyacrylamide. The chemical activity of amide group is very high. It can react with many compounds to produce many polyacrylamide derivatives. Amide group can form strong hydrogen bond with a variety of specific compounds, so it not only has flocculation, thickening, surface activity and other properties, but also can be converted into a polymer containing carboxyl group through its amido hydrolysis, and become an anionic polyacrylamide. The hydroxymethylated polyacrylamide generated by the reaction of polyacrylamine and formaldehyde is an important crosslinking monomer.

Product Use:
Industrial wastewater treatment: for the suspended particles, the wastewater with high concentration, positive charge, neutral or alkaline pH value of water, steel plant wastewater, electroplating plant wastewater, metallurgical wastewater, coal washing wastewater and other wastewater treatment have the best effect. Drinking water treatment: the water source of many Waterworks in China comes from rivers, with high content of sediment and minerals, which is relatively turbid. Although it has been precipitated and filtered, it still can not meet the requirements. It needs to add flocculant, which is 1 / 50 of the inorganic flocculant, but the effect is several times of the inorganic flocculant. For rivers with serious organic pollution, inorganic flocculant and cationic polyacrylamide can be used The effect is better when used together. Now, anionic polyacrylamide is added to make starch particles flocculate and precipitate, and then the precipitate will be transformed into cake shape by filter press, which can be used as feed. The alcohol in alcohol factory can also be dehydrated by anionic polyacrylamide and recycled by filter press. Used for river mud settling. Used as dry strength agent for paper making.
