Alkyd resins are prepared by polyols, polyacids, and vegetable oils or vegetable oleic acid.
The number of double bonds in different types of vegetable oils or molecular weight molecules is different, which can be divided into dry, non-dry and semi-dry alkyd resin.
Drying alkyd resins can dry themselves in the air, and the drying is a process in which macromolecules are cross-linked and cured by oxygen in the air.
According to the content of vegetable oil or vegetable oleic acid used, there are short oil, medium oil, long oil, ultra-long oil and ultra-short oil.
Alkyd resins are manufactured by melting method and solvent method.
The melting method uses polyhydric alcohol, polybasic acid, vegetable oil or vegetable oleic acid under the protection of inert gas. The solvent method is to react raw materials in the solvent xylene, which can produce azeotrope with water and accelerate the reaction rate. , The reaction temperature and concentration required by the solvent method, the reaction conditions are easy to control, and the color of the synthesized alkyd resin is lighter. The performance of alkyd resin is related to the type of oil. With different molecular weight and structure, the performance also varies. It has a wide range of applications in paints, coatings, and ships.
