Pyridine-2, 6-dicarboxylic acid is an important intermediate in pharmaceutical synthesis and has a wide range of applications.

Pyridine-2, 6-dicarboxylic acid occurs naturally in bacterial spores, but in small quantities, it cannot meet the demand and is difficult to extract.

It is not conducive to industrial production and application.

The first synthetic literature reported in 1Chemicalbook935 was that Alvin.W.Singer and S.M. Celvain of the University of Wisconsin oxidized 2, 6-dimethylpyridine with potassium permangan ate in the condition of water as solvent, and the yield was 64%.

It is generally prepared by oxidation of 2, 6-dimethylpyridine in industry.
