Arbutin is known as one of the three whitening artifact, and its ability to desalt melanin is very good. For arbutin, the most important role is whitening, depigmentation. Melanin is a kind of deep pigment, which can cause skin coloring. There are a series of biochemical reactions such as oxidation of phenylalanine ammonia or tyrosine in melanocytes. Tyrosinase has both the activity of tyrosine carboxylase and the activity of dopa oxidase, which is the key factor of melanin synthesis in melanocytes.
