Needle container

A needle container is a hard and intact box that is designed to specifically contain used needles produced at hospitals, laboratories, blood collection or donor centers, and health care units. In the medical field, different types of needles are used on daily basis such as hypodermic needles, IV catheter needles and Hollow bore needles. All these needles are discarded in needle containers. Our needle containers are made up of high quality material which makes the containers puncture resistant. Dailymag ensures highly protective, eco-friendly, and easy to handle needle containers. Our Needle containers are specifically designed keeping in view the health care guidelines and customer's facility. These needle containers are available at reasonable prices which does not become a burden on our customers. To ensure a high level of prevention from needle stick injury, special lids are designed for needle containers that do not allow the needles to come out without proper withdrawal. Our needle containers have good capacity and remain stable while in use.

Needle containers are essential at the sites where any type of needle is in use. There are some general features of our needle containers that completely meet the worldwide followed health care guidelines. These are as follow:

  1. Dailymag needle containers are very intact and hard
  2. These are resistant to any puncture or breakage, from either side of the container.
  3. These are made of high quality and heavy duty plastic.
  4. Needle containers with sharp cutters in their lids are also available.
  5. Good capacity for containing needles and sharps produced per day at a specific site.
  6. Remain upright and stable while in use.
  7. Dailymag needle containers are designed so that no sharp or needle comes out unless it is withdrawn properly
  8. Properly labeled and color coded (mostly yellow or red color)
  9. Contain prominent biohazard indication signs.

Needles are extremely sharp objects which have been designed to puncture the skin or veins to either drain the body fluids or to inject some drugs into the body. Once needles got in contact with the patient's body, it becomes a source of infection or injury. According to the data of the USA department of Health service, almost 600 thousand to 800 thousand cases of needle stick injuries are reported each year. The Centre of Disease Control (CDC) also reports that almost more than 1,000 health care workers got sharp based injuries daily. Needlestick injuries lead to severe infections from blood borne pathogens; among which most of the infections are viral infections I.e., HBV, HIV, and HCV etc.

Risk of needlestick injuries:

CDC reports that the healthcare workers and waste collecting staff are at higher risk of needlestick injuries. Almost 35% of the total needle stick injuries occur during waste collection, clean, and waste disposal. Therefore, it is highly recommended to keep all the needles and sharps in specific needle containers to ensure safe handling. Due to this high risk of injuries and ultimately the infections to the waste management staff, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) strictly recommend immunization of workers against the usual blood borne pathogens. After the waste management staff, the most at-risk group of medical occupational is physicians. They may encounter needlestick injury while manipulating needles to the patients. CDC reports that 10% of the needle stick injuries also occur due to the colliding of staff during the procedure while 0.6% occur while recapping the needle. It is highly recommended to never recap the syringe while putting the cap in hand. Instead of this, the needle should be disposed off in the needle container.

Precautions:

Needlestick injuries could cause life threatening and long lasting infections. Certain precautions must be practiced which are as follow:

  1. Before using a needle, protective gloves should be wear.
  2. Always manipulate the needle in the proper light.
  3. Recapping of syringes is not appreciated because it has a high chance of injury.
  4. Needles should never be handed or pass on directly from one person to another.
  5. Patient should be strictly guided to show the least movement while taking an injection.
  6. An already opened syringe or needle should never be used.

Basics for using a needle container:

A needle container is the most appropriate box to contain used needles till these are disposed of properly. There are some basics for using a needle container. One must keep all these points in mind while dealing with a needle container

  1. Needle container should always be placed near the area where needles are supposed to be used.
  2. Before disposing of needle, the needle container should be examined properly to see if there is a capacity for placing more needles in it or not.
  3. Never place the needle in an already filled or stuffed container because it can cause injury.
  4. A needle container should never be left open.
  5. A needle container should be emptied when it is filled up to three quarters.
  6. If a needle or syringe got stuck into the opening of the container, it should not be managed by hands; forceps or tongs could be used.
  7. Waste needles are treated under the sharp biomedical waste category. The working staff must handle it with precaution.

Use Needle containers in the sites where needles like the syringes, hypodermic needles, IV needles, and suture needles are supposed to be used.

All the health related associations i.e., World Health Organization (WHO), FDA, CDC, and OSHA highly recommend the use of needle containers and pre-exposure vaccination of workers to ensure prevention from needle stick injuries. The use of sharp boxes reduces the chances of blood borne pathogenic infections I.e., HIV and HBV etc. Our needle containers are very useful because they reduce the extent of injuries. Dailymag needle containers are color coded (yellow or red) that indicates warning to the passerby. The biohazard sign also warns the workers to handle it with care. Its high quality walls prevent any puncture or breakage. Our needle containers are designed for the proper facility and prevention of the handler. Our products are eco-friendly, reusable, reliable, and are available in a very competitive price range.
