Usage of L + -Tartaric Acid
L(+)-Tartaric acid is widely used as acidulates in beverage, and other foods, such as soft drinks, wine, candy, bread and some colloidal sweetmeats. With its optical activity, L(+)-Tartaric acid is used as chemical resolving agent to resolve DL-amino-butanol, an intermediate for anti-tubercular drug. And it is used as chiral pool to synthesize tartarate derivatives. With its acidity, it is used as catalyst in the resin finishing of polyester fabric or pH value regulator in oryzanol production. With its complexation, L(+)-Tartaric acid is used in electroplating, sulfur removal and acid pickling. It is also used as complexing agent, screening agent or chelating agent in chemical analysis and pharmaceutical inspection, or as resist agent in dyeing. With its reduction, it is used as reductive agent in manufacturing mirror chemically or imaging agent in photography. It can also complex with metal ion and can be used as cleaning agent or polishing agent of metal surface.

The specific steps of the preparation method are as follows:
1. Preparation of crude (2R, 3R) - 2,3-dihydroxysuccinic anhydride
By weight, 1 part of maleic anhydride, 6-10 parts of distilled water and 0.01-0.02 parts of catalyst are added to the reactor
After stirring evenly, add 1.09-1.32 parts of potassium iodate and 1.29-1.56 parts of iodine, and then raise the temperature to
Reflux reaction at 100-105 ºC for 4-6 hours, end the reaction, cool to room temperature, filter and collect the precipitated solid, and obtain it after drying
The crude product of (2R, 3R) - 2,3-dihydroxysuccinic anhydride is directly used in the next reaction;
2. Preparation of L - (+) - tartaric acid
By weight, add 1 part of crude (2R, 3R) - 2,3-dihydroxysuccinic anhydride obtained in step a to the reactor
And 4-8 parts of sulfuric acid solution, heated to 100-105 ºC under stirring conditions, kept under stirring conditions for 4-6 hours, and then cooled
When it reaches room temperature, precipitate crystals, filter and collect the precipitated crystals, and obtain L - (+) - tartaric acid after drying;
The catalyst described in step a is sodium tungstate or potassium tungstate; The mass fraction of sulfuric acid solution described in step B is
10%-20%.
