White Petroleum Jelly/Vaseline is mainly a chemically inert hydrocarbon and has no bactericidal ability; but it is not hydrophilic and will not be absorbed.

When applied to the skin, it can form a film on its surface to prevent moisture from evaporating and losing and keep the skin moisture state, block bacteria from the air and skin contact, thereby reducing the possibility of infection.
