3. Application

Sodium alginate paste preparation prescription

Warm water (50~60ºC) 80kg
Sodium hexametaphosphate 0.6~0.8kg
Soda ash 0.2~0.6kg
Sodium alginate 5~8kg
Formaldehyde (37.5%) 1-2L
Synthesis with water 100kg

Operation: Put warm water into the bucket first, add sodium hexametaphosphate, slowly pour sodium alginate into warm water under constant stirring, stir well until a uniform, non-grainy paste, add water to the total amount, and then use soda ash Adjust the pH value to 7-8, then add formaldehyde for use.
The paste does not need to be boiled. Generally, it should not exceed 60°C. Otherwise, the viscosity will decrease, and the sodium alginate paste will undergo hydrolysis when exposed to light, and the viscosity will drop sharply. Therefore, it must be stored in a dark place. It is relatively stable when the pH value is 6-11, and it will form a gel in case of strong acid and strong alkali. Heavy metal ions can also cause gelation, which can be prevented by sodium hexametaphosphate. General concentrations of white powder, sodium hydroxide, sodium chlorate, etc., have no effect on it at room temperature.
