Introduction
N-Methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA), is an amino acid derivative acting as a specific agonist at the NMDA receptor, and therefore mimics the action of the neurotransmitter glutamate on that receptor. In contrast to glutamate, NMDA binds to and regulates the NMDA receptor only, with no effect on other glutamate receptors.

Function
1. NMDA can participate in hypothalmo-neurohypophysial system neuroendocrine regulatiion. 
2. NMDA plays an important role in the neuroendocrine regulation. NMDA with suitable concentration can affect the organism endocrine system.
3. NMDA can affect cell proliferation activity by inhibiting DNA synthesis of PC12 cells. 
4. NMDA with suitable concentration can significantly promote releasing in animal adenohypophysis.
5. NMDA can be used as a new functional food additives.
