Trimethoprim is a bacteriostatic antibiotic used mainly in the prophylaxis and treatment of urinary tract infections.
Trimethoprim belongs to the class of chemotherapeutic agents known as dihydrofolate reductase inhibitors.
Trimethoprim was formerly marketed by GlaxoSmithKline under trade names including
Proloprim, Monotrim, and Triprim; but these trade names have been licensed to various generic pharmaceutical manufacturers. In clinical use it is often abbreviated TRI or TMP.
1.Antibacterial close range and sulfa drugs. When used in combination with sulfa drugs, can enhance its efficacy several times to several times. Suitable for respiratory tract infections, senile chronic bronchitis, dysentery, urinary tract infections, enteritis, typhoid, malaria embolism.
