Introduction

Uracil is one of the four nucleobases in the nucleic acid RNA that are represented by the letters A, G, C and U. The others are adenine, cytosine, and guanine. In RNA, uracil binds to adenine via two hydrogen bonds. In DNA, the uracil nucleobase is replaced by thymine. Uracil is a demethylated form of thymine.

Function

Uracil is an antineoplastic agent used in combination with tegafur to treat various cancers, including breast, prostate, and liver cancer.
To prevent uracil base excision repair, a cellular process to correct the deaminated cytidine (or uridine) caused by the Cas9-cytidine deaminase.

Application
 

Uracil can block the degradation of tegafur, increase the concentration of fluorouracil, and enhance the anti-cancer effect. The clinical indications are the same as those of fluorouracil. It is mainly used for digestive system cancer, breast cancer and thyroid cancer, etc., and it has a good effect when combined with mitomycin in advanced gastric cancer. The laboratory obtains uracil through the cyclization of urea and ethyl formylacetate. Used in medicine and biochemical research.
