Tilmicosin is an over-the-counter drug, a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic for livestock and poultry developed in the 1980s, with a molecular weight of 869.15. Tylosin is reacted with 3,5-dimethylpiperidine to generate tilmicosin base, and then phosphoric acid and water are added to form tilmicosin phosphate, which is a mixture of cis and trans isomers.
