Sulbactam acid, alias penicillium sulfone; penicillyl sulfone; penicillyl sulfone acid. Chemical drugs, this product is a semi-synthetic β-lactamase inhibitor, combined with β-lactam antibiotics, has a good antibacterial effect.
Sulbactam is an irreversible inhibitor of beta-lactamase; It binds the enzyme and does not allow it to interact with the antibiotic. 
Sulbactam is able to inhibit the most common forms of beta-lactamase but is not able to interact with the ampC cephalosporinase. Thus, it confers little protection against bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Citrobacter, Enterobacter, and Serratia, which often express this gene.
Application & Function

β-lactamase inhibitor has a strong irreversible inhibitory effect on penicillinase and cephalosporinase. Its antibacterial activity is very weak, so it is rarely used alone, and is often used in combination with other β-lactam antibiotics. It has obvious synergistic effects and is effective against most drug-resistant bacteria. Formulated with cefoperazone to form a compound preparation Sulperzon (Sulperzon) for the treatment of drug-resistant bacterial infections; and compounded with ampicillin to form a compound preparation compound ampicillin.
