Introduction:
             EDTA, or ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, is a chelating agentwidely used in industrial, foods and medical fields. EDTA is synthesized by the alkaline cyanomethylation of ethylenediamine by means of sodium cyanide and formaldehyde. The process of chelation stabilizes the metal ion by preventing it from chemical reacting with any other substances. EDTA is produced as several salts, notably disodium EDTA and calcium disodium EDTA.  

Application:
            EDTA is an important chelating agent with wide application. It can be used in detergents, dyeing adjuvant, processing agent for fibers, cosmetic additive, food additive, blood anticoagulants, water treatment agent and agriculture fertilizers, etc.

           EDTA can form stable water-soluble complexes with alkali metals, rare earth elements and transition metals. In addition to sodium salts, there are ammonium salts and iron, magnesium, calcium, copper, manganese, zinc, cobalt, aluminum and other salts, which have different uses.
