Trihydroxyethylrutin is a flavanoid derivative which protects membranes from oxidative damage produced by neutrophils and &gammaradiation which have deleterious effects on DNA. In addition, Trihydroxyethylrutin acts as a weak inhibitor of platelet aggregation which is also delayed in the presence of the flavanoid.
