A palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction with vinyl halides yields N-boc-n-enyl hydrazine (used in the synthesis of solid phase polypeptides and in the determination of optical purity of α -aminoacetaldehyde). It reacts with the aldehyde to form a hydrazone, which is an intermediate in the synthesis of HIV-1 protease inhibitors.
