Amikacin sulfate is a semi-synthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic, antibacterial spectrum and gentamicin similar to Aureus, pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and proteus are effective. It is also effective to other aminoglycoside antibiotic resistant strains. Amikacin sulfate (BB-K8) is a semi-synthetic, water-soluble kanamycin aminoglycoside derivative that binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, causing an mRNA reading error that prevents bacteria from synthesizing proteins necessary for their growth.
