Bovine Serum Albumin, also known in English as Bovine Albumin, or Cohn Fraction V, or BSA, is a globulin in Bovine Serum, containing 607 amino acid residues, with a molecular weight of 66.446KDa and an isoelectric point of 4.7. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) has been widely used in biochemical experiments. It is often used as a blocking agent in immune experiments, including ELISA and Western Blot. As carrier proteins, they can be cross-linked to haptens and other weak antigens to make them more immunogenic in antibody production. BSA is often used as a reaction stabilizer for some enzymes in restriction enzyme digestion and prevents adhesion to tube walls and pipettor heads. BSA is also commonly used in biopharmaceutical processes or as a nutrient in cell and microbial culture. In addition, it is also used as a standard for quantitative detection of protein.
