The mini walking excavator (also spider excavator) is a construction machine and is assigned to the backhoe as it carries out operations mainly in the state. Similar to a conventional hydraulic excavator, the walking excavator has a rotatable superstructure on which the boom with attachment is located. Differently formed is the construction of the undercarriage. Thus, the mini walking excavator does not have a conventional wheel drive, but is equipped with four stride legs. On the legs are both wheels and outriggers. With the help of these independently controllable walking legs it is possible for the operator to carry out work even in difficult terrain or in the riverbed. This feature means that the Mini Walking Excavator is used in earthworks, forestry or landscape
conservation.

The mini walking excavator has four walking legs on its undercarriage, which can be adjusted in the horizontal and vertical direction and length of the slope. If the wheels are raised on the front arms, the excavator comes to stand on its feet. On some machines, only the rear booms are equipped with wheels. In light or easy terrain, these machines can ride on the wheels, provided that all booms are equipped with it.

To step, the driver reaches out with the boom and presses against the ground, so that the front arms stand out. If now the boom is used, the entire machine rolls on the rear wheels (possibly supported by the wheel drive) to the boom. By raising the boom, the front stride legs are lowered again and the next step can follow.
