What is Thiabendazole?Thiabendazole is a benzimidazole compound that acts as a fungicide and is reported to have aneugenic effects. Rat hepatocyte studies suggest that Thiabendazole mediates the induction of CYP1A1 and anuran Xenopus laevis studies demonstrate its ability to elevate the mRNA expression of hsp70 and IL-1β. Other studies indicate that Thiabendazole acts as a time dependent inhibitor of CYP1A2. |
As a mainly post-harvest fungicide for the control of Aspergillus, Botrytis, Ceratocystis, Cercospora, Cladosporium, Colletotrichum, Corticium, Diaporthe, Diplodia, Fusarium, Gibberella, Gloeosporium, Oospora, Penicillium, Phoma, Rhizoctonia, Sclerotinia, Septoria, Thielaviopsis, Verticillium spp., etc., in avocados, bananas, chicory, citrus fruit, some cucurbits, mangoes, mushrooms, ornamentals, pome fruit, potatoes, strawberries and other crops. Also used for foliar application (on fruits and vegetables), seed treatment and stem injection application.
ApplicationAs Fungicide:
1. It is used primarily to control mold, blight, and other fungally caused diseases in fruits (e. G. Oranges) and vegetables;
2. It is also used as a prophylactic treatment for Dutch Elm disease.
3. Thiabendazole is a systemic benzimidazole fungicide used to control fruit and vegetable diseases such as mold, rot, blight and stain.
4. It is also active against storage diseases and Dutch Elm disease.
5. In livestock, thiabendazole is also applied to treat roundworms.
6. Thiabendazole is also used medicinally as a chelating agent to bind metals.
