Wind power tower: wind turbine is a device that converts wind energy into electric energy. It is mainly composed of blades, generators, mechanical parts and electrical parts. According to the different rotating axis, wind turbines are mainly divided into horizontal axis wind turbines and vertical axis wind turbines. At present, horizontal axis wind turbines occupy the mainstream position in the market.
Generator structure of wind power tower::
Engine room: the engine room contains the key equipment of wind turbine, including gearbox and generator. Maintenance personnel can enter the engine room through the wind turbine tower. The left end of the engine room is the wind turbine rotor, namely the rotor blade and shaft.
Rotor blades: capture the wind and transmit it to the rotor axis. On a modern 600 kW wind turbine, the measured length of each rotor blade is about 20 meters, and it is designed to resemble the wing of an aircraft.
Axis: the rotor axis is attached to the low speed shaft of the wind turbine.
Low speed shaft: the low speed shaft of the wind turbine connects the rotor shaft with the gearbox. On modern 600 kW wind turbines, the rotor speed is quite slow, about 19 to 30 rpm. There is a conduit in the shaft for the hydraulic system to activate the operation of the pneumatic brake.
Gearbox: on the left side of the gearbox is the low speed shaft, which can increase the speed of the high speed shaft to 50 times that of the low speed shaft.
High speed shaft and its mechanical brake: the high speed shaft runs at 1500 rpm and drives the generator. It is equipped with emergency mechanical brake, which is used when the aerodynamic brake fails or when the wind turbine is repaired.
Generator: usually called induction motor or asynchronous generator. On modern wind turbines, the maximum power output is usually 500 to 1500 kW.
Yaw device: turn the engine room with the help of electric motor to make the rotor face the wind. The yaw device is operated by the electronic controller, which can sense the wind direction through the wind vane. The figure shows the yaw of the wind turbine. Usually, when the wind changes its direction, the wind turbine will only deflect a few degrees at a time.
Electronic controller: contains a computer to continuously monitor the state of the wind turbine and control the yaw device. To prevent any fault (i.e. overheating of gearbox or generator), the controller can automatically stop the rotation of the wind turbine and call the wind turbine operator through the telephone modem.
Hydraulic system: used to reset the aerodynamic brake of the wind turbine.
Cooling element: contains a fan for cooling the generator. In addition, it contains an oil cooling element for cooling the oil in the gearbox. Some wind turbines have water-cooled generators.
Tower structure of wind power tower: wind power tower contains engine room and rotor. Usually a tall tower has an advantage, because the higher the tower is above the ground, the higher the wind speed. The tower height of modern 600 kW wind turbine is 40 to 60 meters. It can be tubular tower or lattice tower. Tubular towers are safer for maintenance personnel because they can reach the top of the tower through internal ladders. The advantage of lattice tower is that it is cheaper.
