Ferro-manganese in steelmaking, used as deoxidizer and alloy additives, is the largest amount of ferroalloy.

High carbon ferromanganese is a Mn-Fe-C three-element alloy containing a small amount of silicon, phosphorus and sulfur impurities. The sum of manganese and iron in ferromanganese is about 92%, and the melting point of high carbon ferromanganese is 1220~1270ºC. The manganese and iron in the alloy can be mutually soluble in any proportion, but when the manganese content is more than 82%, it is easily eroded into powder by moisture in the air.

Therefore, products containing more than 82% manganese should pay attention to moisture protection during storage and transportation. High carbon ferromanganese is mainly used in steelmaking as deoxidizer, desulfurizer and alloy additive. As alloying agent, it can improve the mechanical properties of steel and increase the strength, ductility, toughness and wear-resisting ability of steel.
