Atosiban is oxytocin receptor antagonist, a tocolytic.Atosiban is a nonapeptide, desamino-oxytocin analogue, and a competitive vasopressin/oxytocin receptor antagonist (VOTra). Atosiban inhibits the oxytocin-mediated release of inositol trisphosphatefrom the myometrial cell membrane.

Function and application

Atosiban is a combined receptor antagonist of oxytocin and vasopressin V1A. The structure of oxytocin receptor and vasopressin V1A receptor is similar. When the oxytocin receptor is blocked, oxytocin can still exert its effect through the V1A receptor. Therefore, it is necessary to block the above two receptor pathways with the Chemicalbook. A single antagonist of one receptor can effectively inhibit uterine contraction.
