SDM carry a wide range of alnico grade 8 rod magnets in stock, not all of which are shown on this website. Alnico magnets are part of the permanent magnet family, and relatively high in magnetic   strength. They offer excellent temperature stability & can be used at temperatures up to 1000F

Because of their temperature stability and relatively high magnetic strength, they are commonly used for industrial applications such as rotating machinery, meters, instruments, sensing devices holding applications and more.

Alnico 8 rod magnets based on the vintage stagger, you select. Alnico 8 magnets come in vintage flat top only. Relatively new to the music market, Alnico 8 offers a great alternative to ceramic magnets. These are strong magnets with a naturally aggressive tone. Used often in hot bridge position pickups, these magnets offer a heavy bottom, high output, and relatively full mids.

So what can you expect from these magnets?
Alnico II is a lower output magnet that is smooth and usually has just a bit of warmth.
Alnico V has more scooped mids and tighter in the low end. Provides some bite and sparkle.
Alnico VIII is generally between Ceramic and Alnico V, with quite a bit of magnetic pull, punchy with upper mids but a little more warmth than ceramic.
Ceramic is quite strong and gives a very bright tone. It retains articulation and clarity even with heavy distortion which makes it suited for heavy distorted styles.

Alnico magnets are manufactured through either a casting or sintering process, so they can be made into complex shapes such as horseshoes, which is not possible to do with some of the other magnet materials.
