Propylene glycol isFlammable liquid.Hygroscopic, non - corrosive to metal.Reaction with dibasic acid to form polyester,
reaction with nitric acid to form nitric ester, reaction with hydrochloric acid to form chlorohydrin.With dilute sulphuric acid
in the 170 ºC heating into propionic aldehyde.Hydroxyacetic acid, oxalic acid and acetic acid are produced by oxidation
of nitric acid or chromic acid.It reacts with aldehydes to form acetal.1, 2-propylene glycol dehydration to produce propylene
oxide or polyethylene glycol.
The toxicity and irritation are very small, and no victims have been found so far.Intravenous and intraperitoneal injection of LD507000~8000mg/kg and oral injection of LD502800mg/kg were performed in rats.But there have also been reports of
fatal drowsiness and kidney disorders when taken in large doses in food and drink. It exists in tobacco and smoke.
