Indications:
The treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms.

Contra-indications:
Hypersensitivity to sulphonamides, pregnancy, advanced liver and renal insufficiencies.

Adverse Effects:
This drug may cause
?     upset stomach
?     vomiting
?     loss of appetite

Drug Interactions:
Sulfamethoxazle/trimethoprim can enhance the blood-thinning effects of warfarin (Coumadin), possibly leading to bleeding. Sulfonamides such as sulfamethoazole can increase the metabolism (break-down and elimination) of cyclosporine (causing loss of effectiveness of cyclosporine), and can add to the kidney damage caused by cyclosporine.

Precautions & Warning:
Before taking co-trimoxazole,
tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to co-trimoxazole, diuretics ('water pills'), oral diabetes medications, any sulfa drug, or any other drugs.
tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially mthotrexate, phenytoin (Dilantin), warfarin (Coumadin), and vitamins.
tell your doctor if you have or have ever had liver or kidney disease, asthma, severe allergies, or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency (an inherited blood disease).
tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking co-trimoxazole, call your doctor.
plan to avoid unnecessary or prolonged exposure to sunlight and to wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Co-trimoxazole may make your skin sensitive to sunlight.

Use in Pregnancy and Nursing Mothers:
Use of sulfonamides may cause bilirubin to be displaced from proteins in the infant's blood. Displacement of bilirubin can lead to jaundice and a dangerous condition called kernicterus in the infant. For this reason, sulfametoxazole/trimethoprim should not be used near term (late in pregnancy) among women.
NURSING MOTHERS: Sulfamethoazole/trimethoprim should not be used by nursing mothers because sulfametoxazole is excreted in milk and can cause kernicterus.

Treatment/antidote in The Event of Overdose:
Symptoms of overdose may include: severe nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, severe dizziness or drowsiness, mental/mood changes.

Store below 25 degrees celsius. Protect from moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
