Description:
Star Anise Extract Powder Shikimic Acid is the major source of the chemical compound shikimic acid, a primary precursor in the pharmaceutical synthesis of anti-influenza drug oseltamivir.
Shikimic acid is produced by most autotrophic organisms, and whilst it can be obtained in commercial quantities elsewhere, star anise remains the usual industrial source. About 90% of the world's star anise crop is used for the extraction of shikimic acid, a chemical intermediate used in the synthesis of oseltamivir.

Main Function:
Shikimic Acid is an active ingredient that is extracted from Illicium verum Hook. F., Shikimic Acid is a key precursor of many alkaloids, aromatic amino acids, indole derivatives, and it also is widely used as a chiral building block for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. Now, Shikimic Acid serves as the starting material for Oseltamivir which is a neuraminidase inhibitor used in the treatment and prophylaxis of both influenza A and influenza B.
