When the surface of the drum is in contact with the steel wire, it bears the high pressure of the steel wire drawing on the surface under the dry friction state of water shortage and lubrication, and the steel wire brings a lot of drawing heat. Therefore, the drum is a vulnerable part bearing high temperature and high wear.
The surface wear of drum directly affects the quality of steel wire. The excessive wear leads to the increase of production cost and the decrease of production efficiency. According to the matrix material, drum can be divided into cast iron, cast steel, low carbon steel, high carbon forged steel, carbon steel and so on. Different substrate materials, using their own surface treatment, will appear different wear patterns.
The wear resistance of the drum depends on the hardness of the surface coating as well as the strength and hardness of the matrix. For the above five kinds, the cast iron drum with poor shear strength, wear resistance material and adhesive wear ability are all poor. Low carbon steel drum with soft matrix material has poor plastic deformation resistance. And the strength and hardness are relatively high medium and high carbon steel drum wear resistance is obviously better, especially after the surface hardening and surface coating treatment of medium carbon steel drum wear resistance is better, the drum is in a low wear state for a long time.
