Tymyosin is a kind of bacteriostatic antibiotic belonging to the class of truncated platyotins, but it has bactericidal effect on sensitive bacteria at very high concentration. Like macrolide antibiotics, tymyosin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of the ribosome.

The antimicrobial activity of tymyosin against many gram-positive bacteria, including most staphylococcus and streptococcus (except group D streptococcus), and against mycoplasma and tretrepirosis dysenteriae was also good. The antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative bacteria is very weak, except for Actinobacter pleural pneumoniae, some Escherichia coli and some strains of Klebsiella.
