Calcium pantothenate is a kind of B vitamins and one of the essential nutrients for normal biological growth. Calcium pantothenate exists in three forms due to its chiral carbon atoms: DL body (mixed rotator), D body (right rotator) and l body (left rotator). Only d-Calcium pantothenate has biological activity, with white or yellowish acicular crystal or powder appearance, melting point 195 ~ 196 ºC (decomposition), soluble in water, glycerol, slightly soluble in ethanol, hygroscopic, slightly sweet, but slightly bitter. In terms of chemical stability, it is most stable in aqueous solution with pH value between 5 and 7, more stable in air and sunlight, but less stable in acid and alkali.

Lack of calcium pantothenate in human body has the following symptoms:

     Pharmacological action: pantothenic acid is the precursor of coenzyme A, which is necessary for a variety of metabolic links (including carbohydrates, proteins and lipids). It can participate in the synthesis of steroids, porphyrins, acetylcholine and other substances, and maintain normal epithelial function.
     Application: calcium d-pantothenate can be used as a nutritional supplement. Except for special nutritional foods, the dosage must be less than 1% (calculated by calcium) (Japanese standard).
