A needle holder, also called needle driver, is a surgical instrument, similar to a hemostat, used by doctors and surgeons to hold a suturing needle for closing wounds during suturing and surgical procedures.
Companies like Hua Mei Medical carry similar styles of needle holders called Olsen-Hegar Needle Holders that are a scissor and needle holder combo allowing for quick cutting of suture, this is called multifuctional needle holder forceps. These are made to the industry standard with German Stainless steel and can have Tungsten Carbide inserts in the jaws for stronger grasping power.
The parts of a simple needle holder are the jaws, the joint and the handles. Most needle holders also have a clamp mechanism that locks the needle in place, allowing the user to maneuver the needle through various tissues. Different types of needle holders:
1 Mayo-hegar needle holders

2 Olsen-hegar needle holder
This needle holder contains scissors blades at the base of the jaws which can save time to surgeons working without an assistant. It offers the disadvantages that one may accidentally cut the suture material while working.

Difference between Mayo-hegar needle holders and Olsen-hegar needle holder:Olsen-hegar needle holder and Mayo-hegar needle holder. Note the difference in length of the needle holder's jaws and the presence of cutting blades on Olsen-hegar needle holder used to cut suture. 
 
3 Mathieu needle holders
This medical instrument has a ratchet lock at the proximal end of the handles enabling the surgeon to lock and unlock the instrument by squeezing the handles together using a palmed grip.
4 Castroviejo ( Microvascular needle holder)
Castroviejo needle holders are small and are designed to be used with a pencil grip. They have aspring and latch mechanism which allows gentle locking and unlocking and are typically used for microvascular surgery.
