Abstract
Melanotan 2 (MT-2) is a man-made version of alpha melanocyte stimulating hormone (MSH), a melanocortin peptide hormone. It was first synthesized by researchers at the University of Arizona for melanogenesis, and to increase libido effects in men. The peptide mimics melanogenesis and UV-protective effects of Melanotan 1.
However, recent research evidences suggest aphrodisiac effects of Melanotan 2. Due to protective effects against harmful UV rays, it is being studied as a potential prophylaxis against melanoma (skin cancer). The synthetic chemical is contraindicated for consumption, diagnosis or treatment in humans, and strictly for research purpose only. The molecular weight and formula is 1024.2 and C50H69N15O9, respectively.
Melanotan II (also known as MT-II or MT-2) is an injectable peptide hormone used to promote tanning. MT-II works by stimulating alpha-melanocyte receptors, which promotes formation of melanin in response to sun exposure. When a substantial amount of MT-II has been taken within recent "memory" of the skin cells, an individual tans as if he were a genetically darker type.

Application
If you look hard enough out there, you will find some weird and wonderful dosaging schedules whereby the user calculates their daily dosage by multiplying their bodyweight by a cofactor. Perhaps this approach has been adopted since this has been the method employed in the ongoing clinical studies. Typically, this type of formula would suggest a dose of 1mg of MT-II per day for someone weighing in at a mere 110lb (50kg).
The cynical among us might be forgiven for thinking that these formulae are constructed by those with a personal interest in the sale of the product as I believe this to be more than necessary to achieve a great result. Indeed, there are many instances whereby users feel they have become too dark.

Along with the benefits of providing a tan without the need for extensive exposure to sunlight as well as improved sexual performance and/or desire, Melanotan II also may help to decrease the appetite via targeting an appetite-suppression receptor in the brain. This effect is not an overwhelming one but is noticeable for the majority of users and desirable for many. The duration of the tanning effect of the drug once a user ceases administering it will once again depend on several factors. The majority of users however will notice that the tan achieved with the drug will fade and become unnoticeable within four to eight weeks after ceasing the administration of the drug. For most individuals, during the loading phase with the hormone, a range of between 0.015 to 0.02 milligrams per kilogram of body weight per injection should be sufficient. These injections would take place anywhere from twice daily to as infrequently as once every other day or longer. For the maintenance phase many individuals will find that a dose of approximately 0.01 milligrams per kilogram of body weight administered once every few days should be sufficient to maintain the effects of the hormone.
