Physiological actions of Plant hormone Abscisic Acid ABA

-Stimulates the closure of stomata (water stress brings about an increase in ABA synthesis).
-Inhibits shoot growth but will not have as much affect on roots or may even promote growth of roots. 
-Induces seeds to synthesize storage proteins. 
-Inhibits the affect of gibberellins.
-Has effect on induction and maintenance of dormancy. 
-Induces gene transcription especially for proteinase inhibitors in response to wounding which may explain an apparent role in pathogen defense


Application

With auxinethenegibberellinand cytokinin, abscisic acid is ranked as plants five hormone. It can improve plant drought resistance and salt tolerance. Also as effective inhibitor for preventing seed germination, so it can be used for seed and fruit storage. In addition, it has great value on flower and gardening for its application for fresh flowerflower period regulation and root promotion. Because it can arouse quick close of leaf hole.
