Gemfibrozil is a hyperlipidemic agent that elevates plasma HDL and lowers triglycerides and LDL by stabilizing apoA-I mRNA transcripts.

It was found to inhibit inducible nitric oxide synthase by inhibiting the activation of nuclear factor-kappaB, activator protein-1 and CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein β.
