The main purpose of calcium carbide

(1) Calcium carbide can generate acetylene after reaction with water (CaC2+2H-OHCa(OH)2+CH≡CH)and acetylene is also an important material to  many organic compounds .Such as:
Synthetic rubber, synthetic resin, acetone, ketene, carbon black and so on . Oxygen acetylene flame is also widely used in Welding and cutting of metal .
(2)After heating powder calcium carbide and nitrogen together , they become to Calcium cyanamide , that is also called Lime nitrogen . When heating Calcium cyanamide and salt together ,they become to Black cyanide , which is widely used in Mining gold and nonferrous metal industry .
