BATTERY TIPS

- A battery converts chemical energy to
  electrical energy.

- Each cell has approximately 2 volts : 3 cells for
  6 volt battery , 6 cells for a 12 volt battery.

- Inside each cell are electrically charged
  positive and negative lead plates, isolated from
  each other by separators.

- Chemical action between plates and electrolyte
  creates an electrical charge.

- Current is the flow of electricity.

BATTERY CARE AND MAINTENANCE:

Always select a battery that has enough cranking power or capacity to get the job done.

Periodically ensure your battery is fully recharged.
Without use some batteries discharge up to 10% of their capacity each month. (flooded type).
Failure to charge a battery will cause sulphation leading to poor life and performance.

Check battery levels monthly.
Ensure they are at the upper level indicator. Top up using distilled water.
If topping up is required more than 3 times a year contact the Smart Crew!

Ensure battery terminals are clean.
If corrosion occurs, pour boiling water over terminals and cover with either vaseline or a grease based applicant.

Keep battery top clean and acid free, ensure battery is held down securely for extended life.
Only use a battery for its designed purpose. i.e. Marine Engine Start, Deep Cycle etc

Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) is a measurement of the number of amps a battery can deliver at 0 ° F for 30 seconds and not drop below 7.2 volts. So a high CCA battery rating is especially important in starting battery applications, and in cold weather. This measurement is not particularly important in Deep cycle batteries, though it is the most commonly 'known' battery measurement.
