Huangshan Mao Feng tea, one of China's Ten Famous Teas, is originated from Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) in Anhui Province, which is one of China's famous mountains for producing great green tea.
Huangshan Mao Feng literally means "Yellow Mountain Fur Peak" due to the tea leaves which is covered with small white hairs and the shape of the processed leaves which resemble the peak of a mountain. The best tea leaves are picked in the early spring before China's Qingming Festival. Only the new tea buds and the leaf next to the bud are picked.
Mao Feng tea leaves, which is in emerald-green color, are flat, thick and a little curled as if they were a sparrow tongue covered with white pekoe. During brewing, the tea leaves float on the surface at first and then start sinking or is suspended in the glass after absorbing water. The extended buds are pleasing to both eyes and the mind.
The tea soup looks crystal clear with an apricot yellow color. The special processing technique makes Huangshan Maofeng produce a strong, yet very refreshing taste.
