Procaine is a local anesthetic drug of the amino ester group. It is most commonly used in dental procedures to numb the area around a tooth and is also used to reduce the pain of intramuscular injection of penicillin. Owing to the ubiquity of the trade name Novocain, in some regions, procaine is referred to generically as novo caine. It acts mainly as a sodium channel blocker. 

Prior to the discovery of amylocaine and procaine, co caine was a commonly used local anesthetic. Einhorn wished his new discovery to be used for amputations, but for this surgeons preferred general anesthesia.

1.What is procaine hcl used for?
Procaine is taken by mouth or given as a shot for arthritis, "hardening of the arteries" in the brain (cerebral atherosclerosis), dementia, depression, hair loss, high blood pressure, and sexual performance problems. As a prescription-only injection, procaine is used for local anesthesia.

2.What is procaine hydrochloride?
Procaine hydrochloride, also called Novocain, or Novo caine, synthetic organic compound used in medicine as a local anesthetic. Introduced in 1905 under the trade name Novo caine, it became the first and best-known substitute for co caine in local anesthesia.

3.What is procaine made of?
Procaine is a benzoate ester, formally the result of esterification of 4-aminobenzoic acid with 2-diethylaminoethanol but formed experimentally by reaction of ethyl 4-aminobenzoate with 2-diethylaminoethanol.

4.Is procaine anti inflammatory?
Apparently, the metabolites of procaine are responsible for the additional pharmacologic actions. DEAE is able to act as an anti-inflammatory due to the inhibition of the fatty acid amide hydrolase which causes an increase in endo-cannabinoid levels.

5.What is the function of procaine injection?
Penicillin G procaine injection is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria. Penicillin G procaine injection should not be used to treat gonorrhea (a sexually transmitted disease) or early in the treatment of certain serious infections.
