Nitenpyram is an insecticide commonly used in agriculture and veterinary medicine to kill parasites on livestock or pets.

In veterinary medicine, nitenpyram is used as an oral agent for dogs and cats to control fleas, often under the trade name Capstar [2]. After ingestion, it begins to kill fleas within 30 minutes, and within four hours, all adult fleas are killed. The effect of Knoxstar pills can last for 24-48 hours. Nitenpyram is safe for use in puppies and kittens that are at least four weeks old or weigh at least 2 pounds.

Nitenpyram is a class of neonicotinoids, which means it is a neurotoxin that has the ability to block the transmission of neural information to the central nervous system and can cause (almost) immediate death of fleas.
