What is N-Acetyl-L-cysteine ?

N-acetyl-L-cysteine is a white crystalline powder with a garlic-like smell and sour taste. It is hygroscopic, soluble in water or ethanol, but insoluble in ether  It is acidic in aqueous solution (pH2-2.75 in 10g/LH2O), mp101-107ºC. This product is an N-acetylated derivative of cysteine. The molecule contains a sulfhydryl group, which can break the disulfide bond (-SS-) of the mucin peptide bond, thereby turning the mucin chain into a small molecule peptide chain. The viscosity of mucin, so this product is a dissolving drug for mucus, purulent sputum, and respiratory mucus.

Application of N-Acetyl-L-cysteine   

Biochemical reagents, medicines, the product is used as an expectorant, said phlegm is easy to clean, easy to cough and calm. It has a decomposing effect on viscous sputum. The mechanism of action is that the sulfhydryl group contained in the product's molecular structure can break the disulfide bond in the mucin polypeptide chain in mucinous sputum, decompose the mucin, reduce the viscosity of the sputum, and make it liquefied and easy to cough up. It is suitable for patients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases whose sputum is thick and difficult to cough up, as well as a large number of sticky sputum blockages that cause severe symptoms due to difficulty in sucking.
