Griseofulvin, chemical name (2S,6'R)-7-chloro-2',4,6-trimethoxy-6'-methyl-3H,4'H-spiro[1-benzofuran -2,1'-Cyclohexatrieno[2]ene]-3,4'-dione, with the chemical formula C17H17ClO6, is an oral antifungal drug. Clinically, it is mainly used for tinea capitis, severe tinea corporis, tinea corporis, and onychomycosis of the hands, feet, etc., and has obvious curative effect on tinea capitis. It can inhibit fungal mitosis, break the mitotic spindle structure, and stop metaphase cell division. This product is deposited in the keratin precursor cells of the skin and hair, which can promote the keratin to resist the invasion of fungi; when the infected keratin falls off, it replaces it with healthy tissue. It is effective for skin fungal infections caused by Epidermophyton, Microsporum and Trichophyton. It is not effective for other fungal infections including Candida and bacteria.
