Introduction

Retinal, also known as vitamin A aldehyde, is an oxidized derivative of retinol, which is generated by oxidative cleavage of β-carotene, reduced to retinol, and retinoic acid by oxidation. Retinaldehyde is an intermediate metabolite of natural retinoic acid, has similar biological activity as retinoic acid, and the skin's tolerance to it is significantly better than retinoic acid.
