What is   Zoledronic acid ?

Zoledronic acid, one of the most potent nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates, induces anti-proliferative and apoptotic effects on multiple myeloma cell lines in vitro by activating protein kinase C. Zoledronic acid also inhibits proliferation of human foetal osteoblastic cell line (hFOB) with an IC50 of 40 μM. In cultures of freshly isolated rabbit and human osteoclasts zoledronic acid (10-100 μM) induced morphological features similar to apoptosis and Osteoclastogenesis was inhibited with an IC50 of 15 nM.

 Zoledronic acid also known as zoledronate, is a medication used to treat a number of bone diseases.Thisinclude osteoporosis, high blood calcium due to cancer, bone breakdown due to cancer, and Paget's disease of bone. It is given by injection into a vein.
