Oryzanol is present in rice bran oil and is a mixture of ferulic acid esters mainly composed of triterpene (en) alcohol. The main role in the diencephalon autonomic nervous system and the endocrine center, can adjust autonomic function, reduce endocrine disorders, improve mental disorders. At the same time also has lower blood lipids, reduce liver lipid, prevent lipid oxidation, anti-oxidation and other physiological functions. In addition, there is the role of resistance to arrhythmia, can regulate autonomic function, so that the excitability of the myocardium. Oryzanol lipid-lowering effect can also improve myocardial blood supply, play a role in improving sleep.

Function & Application
(1) Oryzanol is widely used as a food additive, pharmaceutical material. In cosmetic area, the application on to creams and sunscreens 
exploiting  its skin age resistor function and ultraviolet absorbing effect.
(2) For antioxidant action, in comparison with tocopherol, gammaoryzanol is reported to be much superior in heat resistance and it is also 
said that the interaction between them further improves the anti-oxidant action.
 (3) It has been approved in Japan for several conditions, including menopausal symptoms, mild anxiety, stomach upset, and high cholesterol. 
  In the USA, it is widely used as a sports supplement, as well as for reducing cholesterol.
