Carvacrol is an organic substance with a chemical formula of C10H14O. It is easily soluble in alcohol and ether, but almost insoluble in water. It is a colorless to light yellow liquid with the odor of thymol, which can volatilize with water vapor. Carvacrol is a monoterpene in the Lamiaceae plants, which has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. Carvacrol can cause G0/G1 cell cycle arrest, down-regulate Notch-1 and Jagged-1, and induce apoptosis.
